1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us when you create an account, including your name, email address, and password. We also collect content you save to Relay, including AI outputs, project data, and artifacts. If you use the Relay browser extension, it only acts when you click its Save to Relay button on ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity. It then records the response text, the URL of the page, the time of the capture, and, on ChatGPT and Claude, the prompt it can find for that response (Perplexity captures do not include a prompt). These captures wait in your browser until you save one to a project, which sends it to Relay, or clear it. We collect this so you and your teammates can see the origin of each saved item. The extension also stores your Relay login session locally in your browser so you stay signed in between uses; this session data never leaves your device except to authenticate the extension's requests to Relay (such as listing your projects and saving a capture). We automatically collect certain technical information including your IP address, browser type, and usage data to improve our services.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve our services. This includes operating the Relay platform, processing payments through Stripe, sending notifications and emails, providing customer support, and analyzing usage patterns to improve features. We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not allow advertisers to target you based on your content.

3. Data Storage and Security

Relay stores customer data with Supabase, our database infrastructure provider. Supabase's platform is independently audited and certified to SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001, and all data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

4. AI Content

Content you save from AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) is stored in your Relay workspace. Inside Relay, it is visible to you and the teammates you invite to a project. In a class, work you submit to an assignment is visible to that class's teacher. The teacher's class dashboard also shows activity for each student, including how many items each student has saved in the class (whether or not they were submitted), how many were approved, how many comments they posted, and when they were last active, plus a count of which AI tools the class's saved items came from. If a teacher puts you on a team, the teacher and the other members of that team can see the work saved in the team's shared project. If you or a teammate create a share link for an item, anyone with that link can read that item until sharing is turned off. To produce syntheses and run verification checks, the content involved is sent to the AI model providers Relay uses: Anthropic (Claude) for synthesis, and Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google (Gemini) for cross-model verification. Relay does not train AI models on your content. We do not share your content with other third parties except as necessary to provide our services.

5. Sharing Your Information

We may share your information with service providers who assist us in operating our platform, including Supabase (database), Stripe (payments), Resend (email), Vercel (hosting), and Plausible (privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics). These providers are contractually obligated to protect your information. Some features also send a limited amount of data to other services: when Relay builds a presentation deck, it sends short image search keywords drawn from the deck to Pexels to find stock photos; when you look up a citation, Relay sends the DOI or arXiv identifier to Crossref or arXiv (or fetches the source link you entered) to read its title and authors; and if you connect Google Drive, each item you approve while connected is saved to your Google Drive as a text file (its title, AI model, project name, and content). Content you synthesize or verify is also sent to the AI model providers named in section 4 (Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google) so they can process it. We may disclose your information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Relay, our users, or others.

6. Cookies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to maintain your login session and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising cookies or track you across third-party websites. For website analytics we use Plausible, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that does not use cookies or collect personal data. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling cookies may affect your ability to use certain features.

7. Your Rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or export your personal information, or to delete your account, by emailing jake@relay-work.com. Deletion has one limit we want to be upfront about: Relay's record log is append-only by design, which is what makes records tamper-evident, so entries already written to that log cannot be erased. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete or de-identify your information outside that log, and we are building out de-identification for the log itself. If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to data portability and the right to object to processing.

8. Children's Privacy

Relay is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at jake@relay-work.com and we will delete or de-identify that information, subject to the append-only record limit described in Section 7.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by email or by posting a notice on our website. Your continued use of Relay after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Privacy Policy.

10. Contact Us

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or our privacy practices, please contact us at jake@relay-work.com or visit relay-work.com.
